Man in search of Library

Image
The curious-seeker in me has always gravitated towards libraries. This particular fascination of mine has been labelled as an oddity by people in my closest circles for a long time now. Fine, whatever it is presumed to be but I am trying to get a sense here of why it is labelled as a nerdy thing to spend time in libraries, I mean c’mon libraries have so much more to offer beyond the books. Point being, that libraries have always been palaces for people. I agree that digital data has made information available to all - anytime, anywhere. But hear me out, the holistic approach of getting data from books makes one hell of a difference from the fragment of knowledge we consume online. Also, what these physical libraries offer to an individual and as well as to society is what the digital world craves for "THE SPACE". When I say space it's not just physical space, it’s the mental space for you to focus and be transfixed at that moment. Libraries offer a space for discussions, ...

It's just a NEWS strip

Image
Whenever you pick up a newspaper or just scroll over your phone for your early morning news-minute fix over a coffee you will definitely come across the news columns that are filled with accidents. It's pretty common that we scroll over, certainly, we don't want our day to be disturbed, but what if that strip of news knocks on your door in the form of someone you know?. Here is something I would like to share. When I live in a locality for a long time, I tend to socialise with people around me, including people from shop vendors, curry points, and pan shops. It's just a little talk I have with them whenever I drop by those shops but I find a little comfort in that. Once in a while I visit this man's shop in my area, he is in his late 60s, and he just sells the eggs in a small wheel cart parked beside the road. I call him uncle garu/babyaa garu, he and I are from the same hometown, and we used to have a small chit-chat in our Godavari dialect. He moved to Vizag 3 years ...

A inter teen transition

A nostalgia that I definitely don't want to revisit but saw this guy standing in front of one of those KGF hostels aka inter hostels finishing his exams. He stood there holding his rolled bed, that two-year-old bucket, study chair, and a study pad with random scribblings. Yes, those scribblings might seem random to someone who hasn't been to that world but they do represent something intimate, his loneliness, his trace of memories. I saw this little freedom smile on this young man, but little did he know that he was stepping into a world where a much wider spectrum of days he had to live, oh boy been there done that, I thought. I hope this transition period lasts for you boy: more days of home food, three times a day. No more rushing to the only bakery on campus to have that one lasting bite of egg puff with your carefully saved-up pocket money. I wish you more nights to have that wholesome feeling of going to bed with fresh bed sheets, no more early morning hustle to stand in ...

WTD(what the detail)-#1-RRR

Image
If you were asked to pick the fav scene from #RRR The interval scene obviously but what excites me more is the train scene, the more I think about it the more I like it. My thoughts Here is why, Manam chala cinema lo oka hero heroine kalvadam chusam in a most fictional way, akasam lo meruplu, galleke ke raleey puvulu, an over the top fantasy but two protagonists meeting and having a similar thought process over resolving a conflict is what struck a chord with me. This is the utmost level any writer can come up with, to SSR his heroes are superhumans set onto a larger than life story and this particular scene is the banger open to it, in my opinion. And not just the thought process, the way they understood each other effortlessly, they were on the same page even though they didn’t know each other and on top of that they trusted each other blindly, one mistake they could not accomplish. Here is what a Reddit comment has to say: The train scene is also a neat little summary of the movie. ...

The OTIS lift

I spent my whole childhood in the suburbs of Chennai, and the only impression of cities I had then was this; urban jungle with tall buildings shooting to the sky. As a kid, I wondered how people managed to climb those floors in the first place. I find myself exhausted climbing two floors in my apartment and people doing that consistently in the city is what boggled me; they must be the Tarzan clan, that's what I thought back then. Well, what else could you expect a kid to think who was entrenched in watching pogo channels 24x7. Of course, it never occurred to me that there would be a thing that is powered by a couple of motors and uses pulleys to lift people. Speaking of pulleys, I had a hard time solving HC Verma's pulley problems in my plus 2 grade, so no wonder my mind hasn't figured it out. My dad's boss has invited us to his daughter's wedding in Chennai. It was this big fat wedding; an extravaganza ambience, a platter of delicious foods and every other thing t...

A Fictional Doctor #10

When the pandemic broke out, the majority of the population had no absolute clue what was about to unfold for the next two years and how it would put them in uncharted territory, which would further change their lives forever. This third wave is no different. You keep saying to yourself, eh, tomorrow it’ll be over. Tomorrow it’ll be over, it’ll be over, but It’s been weeks since she took over the duty. We did have some joyful moments in the beginning days, she would send me the dance reels on IG, and I learnt them and taught her on a video call. We watched movies on Netflix watch party, It used to be fun. We only hope to dance together to a trendy song when all this is over. Doctors who are the forefront warriors of this battle had put their own lives at risk with selfless determination for the sake of saving lives; they indeed are our heroes in these challenging times. While they are putting their health, families, and, most importantly, their own lives at risk, the least we can do is...

A Fictional Doctor #9

Well, If you had told me a year ago that I would cook myself, I would have laughed at it, but after two waves and a couple of lockdowns, here I am, from cooking veggies to grilling chicken, of course, thanks to the lockdown, of all the damages it has done, it has taught me the self-care, and yes the survival. I classify cooking as self-care, not for the right amount of oil and hygiene we could control, but it does something more than that; here is something I would like to quote from that Reddit user posted.         " Self-care should not be something we resort to because we are so absolutely exhausted that we need some reprieve from our own relentless internal pressure. True self-care is not salt baths and chocolate cake, it is making the choice to build a life you don’t need to regularly escape from. And that often takes doing the thing you least want to do." Cooking is not something I learned quickly, and it took a fair amount of...
