My cute/annoying nephew

Image
Newborns are cute, and we all know that. But what about teenagers? They can be a bit funky and weird, but they're okay. And the ones between 5-13? Oh gosh, these guys can be an absolute nightmare. Let me tell you why. These toddlers are cute, and this statement doesn't hold true every time, it's because they are built that way, they are a duality in nature: they are cute and annoying at the same freaking time. It's like they know how to push all of our buttons and they do it on purpose! If you break down a computer to a molecular level, it essentially works in binary form. At any given time, it can either do 1 or 0, but supercomputers can do both 1 and 0 simultaneously. Likewise, these kids do the cute stuff and are annoying simultaneously. I have a nephew. He is 10 years old and 10 times more annoying than any other kid I know. The only time I feel cute about him is when he goes to bed and slips into sleep like a baby. But for the rest of the day, he's like a screa...

The Laws of gatte chutney

Wrapping your mind around your life is pretty hard but do you know what else is harder, watching a guy next to you enjoying every bite of Bonda with the gatee chutney(I can't find a fancier English name for it) while you are on a f*king diet. I'm at the tiffin centre waiting for my parcel, I am a regular customer here so the bonda shop anna gave me the gatte chutney privilege. Okay, the harder part here is I promised myself to have regular tiffin only twice a week, for the rest of the days I have to resist the urge to have it and just deliver it to my home and I have to survive on this colonized white guy’s diet: bread spread with peanut butter and oats, f**k that protein and fibre respectively. Speaking of gatee chutney, it is hard to find, and even if you do, every Bonda shop anna will treat it as an invaluable asset, so asking for extra chutney is an unwritten rule of crime 101. I still can't comprehend why people choose normal chutney over gatee chutney. Are they going...

The Martian by Andy Weir - My review

Image
The reason I picked this book This is a unique experience: I watched the movie in 2017, read it this week and rewatched the film once I finished the book. So it’s been 5 years since I watched the movie and I only remember two scenes the potato harvest and a nerd guy at NASA figuring out the shortest rendezvous to Mars. I read ‘Project Hail Mery’ by Andy Weir last year, and it's easily the best sci-fi I've ever read. I tuned to it on audible and Ray porter’s narration is the best thing if you are looking to utilize the free credits of Audible. This year I thought I should try Martian.  Martian audible version is about 11 hours and it took me three weeks to finish it, over this time you get to live with this character and walk along with him on the Martian planet, I must appreciate the movie version where we get to see the visual version like the opening scenes; the beautiful aerial shots of Mars and the events leading up to the accident were amazing and Movie vs Book If there is...

The girl with a pawesome tattoo

Image
It’s the fourth Saturday, yay!!, my rat-racing fat ass finally got some time to write a story. I started to type. Newton’s first law states that a body stays at rest until and unless an external force acts on it, likewise life goes calmer and ordinary in a single direction until love happens, it is a magical external force that could make one’s life extraordinary. “Bro she broke up with me”, my friend interrupted. Damn it, not again, I am just about to write and process a good feel about love and here is my friend standing in front of me with 180 deg flip experience, universe conspiracies with my writing process, I groaned. I closed the laptop lid and turned to him. “Go on, I am all ears”, I sighed. “We were in a 2-year relation and now she says that I am not giving her space and it is not working anymore between us”, he said and started to sob. Poor girl she took this long to figure out, this guy is toxic when it comes to relationships, anyways he is my best friend so I had to listen ...

My Love letter to Vizag

Image
Dear Vizag, you beauty, you are widely famous for your breathtaking scenery and beaches. I might find substitutes for a fresh sea breeze or early morning sunshine, but the bond I've developed with you over the last three years is irreplaceable. You've injected liveness into my ever-dull life, and even my day-to-day routine is set in a scenic paradise. You've made my heart alive again. Storytelling You gave me enough space to express myself. You made my first storytelling session happen, which I never thought I would attend let alone perform in it. You gave me a platform and people to listen to my story. Did I tell you how much confidence I felt holding that mic and getting to say my story? It's not a perfect one, a boring one I admit but it was a great experience. Book Review session You made my Saturday evening wholesome with the reading sessions in the library. Every alternate Saturday evening, I met a curious bunch, where we expressed our ideas and shared perspective...

The transformative journey of theatre's ventilation

Image
In 2022 would you watch a movie in the theatre that doesn't have an AC? To answer that question I would like to share my experience with theatres and how this AC, the transformative technology got into theatres. My Theater experience: It is fair to say that south Indians go crazy about movies and celebrate their actors as superstars if not Demigods, this tradition has been going on for years now. One can witness the festive celebrations at theatres on the first day of release, with fans bursting crackers, humongous cut-outs of stars decorated with huge garlands and fans pouring milk over the cut-outs, such is the craze for actors and cinema. We love watching movies in the theatres. Of all the transformative technologies that factored in to make theatres “an escape the reality” experience, I find the story of AC and how it got its way into theatres intriguing. I had my fair share of unique experiences watching a movie in the theatre. When I was a kid my dad used to take me to the th...

Midnight Library book review

Image
The concept The Midnight Library by Matt Haig is a heartwarming story about a woman who finds a unique library that allows her to revisit moments from her past. The story is told with humour and warmth, and the characters are incredibly relatable. It offers readers the chance to explore alternate lives they could have lived. It's a chance to see how your life could have been, and to learn from your regrets. My personal takeaway We all have regrets in life - from career choices to personal choices. We all stand at some pivotal point where we have to choose, and moving forward, we all think about the other opinion we left behind. I never proposed to my first love, the girl I liked in my first year of engineering thinking that our friendship would no longer exist if I expressed my feelings. I did not prefer to do one more year long term coaching for GATE, thinking that it would slow down my career by one year. I'm almost 30 now and I've lived long enough to have my own “book ...

Man in search of Library

Image
The curious-seeker in me has always gravitated towards libraries. This particular fascination of mine has been labelled as an oddity by people in my closest circles for a long time now. Fine, whatever it is presumed to be but I am trying to get a sense here of why it is labelled as a nerdy thing to spend time in libraries, I mean c’mon libraries have so much more to offer beyond the books. Point being, that libraries have always been palaces for people. I agree that digital data has made information available to all - anytime, anywhere. But hear me out, the holistic approach of getting data from books makes one hell of a difference from the fragment of knowledge we consume online. Also, what these physical libraries offer to an individual and as well as to society is what the digital world craves for "THE SPACE". When I say space it's not just physical space, it’s the mental space for you to focus and be transfixed at that moment. Libraries offer a space for discussions, ...

It's just a NEWS strip

Image
Whenever you pick up a newspaper or just scroll over your phone for your early morning news-minute fix over a coffee you will definitely come across the news columns that are filled with accidents. It's pretty common that we scroll over, certainly, we don't want our day to be disturbed, but what if that strip of news knocks on your door in the form of someone you know?. Here is something I would like to share. When I live in a locality for a long time, I tend to socialise with people around me, including people from shop vendors, curry points, and pan shops. It's just a little talk I have with them whenever I drop by those shops but I find a little comfort in that. Once in a while I visit this man's shop in my area, he is in his late 60s, and he just sells the eggs in a small wheel cart parked beside the road. I call him uncle garu/babyaa garu, he and I are from the same hometown, and we used to have a small chit-chat in our Godavari dialect. He moved to Vizag 3 years ...

A inter teen transition

A nostalgia that I definitely don't want to revisit but saw this guy standing in front of one of those KGF hostels aka inter hostels finishing his exams. He stood there holding his rolled bed, that two-year-old bucket, study chair, and a study pad with random scribblings. Yes, those scribblings might seem random to someone who hasn't been to that world but they do represent something intimate, his loneliness, his trace of memories. I saw this little freedom smile on this young man, but little did he know that he was stepping into a world where a much wider spectrum of days he had to live, oh boy been there done that, I thought. I hope this transition period lasts for you boy: more days of home food, three times a day. No more rushing to the only bakery on campus to have that one lasting bite of egg puff with your carefully saved-up pocket money. I wish you more nights to have that wholesome feeling of going to bed with fresh bed sheets, no more early morning hustle to stand in ...

WTD(what the detail)-#1-RRR

Image
If you were asked to pick the fav scene from #RRR The interval scene obviously but what excites me more is the train scene, the more I think about it the more I like it. My thoughts Here is why, Manam chala cinema lo oka hero heroine kalvadam chusam in a most fictional way, akasam lo meruplu, galleke ke raleey puvulu, an over the top fantasy but two protagonists meeting and having a similar thought process over resolving a conflict is what struck a chord with me. This is the utmost level any writer can come up with, to SSR his heroes are superhumans set onto a larger than life story and this particular scene is the banger open to it, in my opinion. And not just the thought process, the way they understood each other effortlessly, they were on the same page even though they didn’t know each other and on top of that they trusted each other blindly, one mistake they could not accomplish. Here is what a Reddit comment has to say: The train scene is also a neat little summary of the movie. ...

The OTIS lift

Image
I spent my whole childhood in the suburbs of Chennai, and the only impression of cities I had then was this; urban jungle with tall buildings shooting to the sky. As a kid, I wondered how people managed to climb those floors in the first place. I find myself exhausted climbing two floors in my apartment and people doing that consistently in the city is what boggled me; they must be the Tarzan clan, that's what I thought back then. Well, what else could you expect a kid to think who was entrenched in watching pogo channels 24x7. Of course, it never occurred to me that there would be a thing that is powered by a couple of motors and uses pulleys to lift people. Speaking of pulleys, I had a hard time solving HC Verma's pulley problems in my plus 2 grade, so no wonder my mind hasn't figured it out. My dad's boss has invited us to his daughter's wedding in Chennai. It was this big fat wedding; an extravaganza ambience, a platter of delicious foods and every other thing t...

A Fictional Doctor #10

When the pandemic broke out, the majority of the population had no absolute clue what was about to unfold for the next two years and how it would put them in uncharted territory, which would further change their lives forever. This third wave is no different. You keep saying to yourself, eh, tomorrow it’ll be over. Tomorrow it’ll be over, it’ll be over, but It’s been weeks since she took over the duty. We did have some joyful moments in the beginning days, she would send me the dance reels on IG, and I learnt them and taught her on a video call. We watched movies on Netflix watch party, It used to be fun. We only hope to dance together to a trendy song when all this is over. Doctors who are the forefront warriors of this battle had put their own lives at risk with selfless determination for the sake of saving lives; they indeed are our heroes in these challenging times. While they are putting their health, families, and, most importantly, their own lives at risk, the least we can do is...
